The 911 (992) brought a smile to the faces of many purists, because the 992 Porsche 911 Carrera T
came as standard with a seven-speed manual transmission. The lightweight 911 slotted in between
the 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S and used the 283 kW (385 PS) twin-turbo engine from the
base model. For a particular purist driving experience, the body sat 10 millimetres lower, and
Porsche reduced the amount of noise insulation, making the sound of the six-cylinder boxer engine
even more pronounced to the occupants’ ears. The ‘T’ in the model designation stood for touring
and traces its history back to the homologation of the 911 T as a touring car in 1968. This first 911 T
was offered until 1973. Six years ago, Porsche revived the purist 911 variant with the 991-generation
911 Carrera T and carried over to the current 911 (992).
